Thanks to a partnership between UTHealth Houston and Sight Savers America, 11 children with visual impairments received electronic reading machines this week. Today, they are undergoing virtual training to learn how to use the devices, known as CCTVs.
“The annual CCTV giveaway provides these children with devices that they can use at home to continue their learning seamlessly throughout the year,” says Bhavani R. Iyer, OD, FAAO, with McGovern Medical School and UTHealth Neurosciences, who sees the patients in clinic and identifies who would benefit from the CCTVs. “Be it to pursue an arts project, read books, or get ahead in preparing for the next school year, the device allows them to make academic progress and be successful.” Check out the devices being used by some of this year’s recipients during #LowVisionAwarenessMonth:
