This year Voices for Vision will honor five accomplished visually impaired individuals who exemplify – Realizing Victory over Visual Impairment!
“Voice for Athletics” – Brandon Adame
Brandon is a thirty-two year old blind triathlete and contender for the 2020 Men’s Paralympic Team. Brandon’s condition dates from birth. During boyhood he had some right-eye vision, but when he turned fifteen changes in eye shape closed that limited window on the world.
“Voice for Culinary Arts” – Christine Ha
Winner of MasterChef on the Fox Television Network in 2012, author of Recipes from My Home Kitchen and in 2014, the recipient of the Helen Keller Award for Personal Achievement. She was diagnosed with nueromyelitis optica (NMO) in 2003.
“Voice for Art” – Charlie Hardwick (also known as “Uncle Charlie”)
A fixture in the Houston art scene since his days as a teenage punk rocker in the 90’s. He became ill in 2003 when a misdiagnoses and a series of other medical errors left him with irreversible ocular nerve damage and he was deemed legally blind in 2007.
“Voice for Workplace Professionalism”- Jennifer Parrish
Winner of the National Industries Worker of the Year Award and blind since birth. Jennifer works at The Lighthouse of Houston as one of 1500 certified medical transcribers.
“Voice for Music” – Sebastian Whittaker
Houston’s critically acclaimed drummer extraordinaire. He is an accomplished jazz drummer with his band, The Creators, and a composer, and a classical trained pianist. Born 1966 in Houston and blinded at the age of one by retinal cancer, “Bash” began playing drums at age three. In 2008, Sebastian founded his own record company, UpFront Music.
